We literally had a plumber, take a look at one of the habits when he was out to restore something else, but it was totally inapplicable. He opened it, cleaned some things off, reassembled things, and went merrily on his way. Unfortunately, it still leaked. Today, I doubt it was stiff again to fix it myself. What follows is an overview of the preparation, with lots of photos.
Incidentally, this was such a fix with reluctance that I can not believe the plumber is not on the barrel head there - I guess it did not spare the honesty, or could not be bothered to leg off his chances of obtaining them.
