Depends on what the temperatures are low in your area. I have banana trees and cut about a foot above the pot / soil for the winter. They reject the following year, but will never show off.

my setting up ? like some people are telling planting trees at the back of the house will flag the foundation and develop cracks.........
The germinate spread of large trees like this is to wide for this negligible space and will eventually undermine your foundations. Also, it can grow up to 40 feet costly (depending on the species) and would block out any sunlight from that area.
